Production design is the overall visual look of a production. This element is very important because it achieves three main goals: Sets the scenes mood, reflect how the character in the scene is feeling, and it can also convey a theme to the audience. A production designer is responsible for achieving these goals. In a scene where somebody has just been fired from a job that they really need, the set design would match the mood of worry, bitterness, or stress because that probably is what matches the current mood of the film. The set design also would reflect the characters feelings. Setting is a powerful way to give the audience a feel of what state a character is currently in. Set design can also be used to convey a theme by using it in a strategic way to reveal to the audience what the deeper meaning is.
Setting in film refers to the time and/ or place a narrative occurs in. This is essential in production because without a background or anything other than just the character, a story becomes bleak. Setting attributes to the storyline and fulfills the goal of helping the audience understand the situation more. Some key elements that help the audience understand the genre are the characters, storyline, and setting.
Lastly props in a film are objects that characters use in a scene. Props are important to production because they are an essential part of the story telling in a film. Props can create meaning in a scene in different ways. It can reveal something crucial to the audience or evoke an emotion. For instance, when a character is carrying a weapon that shows that they are prepared to use it in the event that they need to.
