Lighting In Film

 The purpose of lighting in film is to convey the visual mood, enhance atmosphere, and it creates a sense of meaning for the audience consuming the media product. This is a major part of film making. It ties the story being told together ad really give the audience the feel of what the director is trying to get across. The person responsible for creating lighting in a film is the cinematographer and the gaffer or the chief lighting technician. Some of theses responsibilities include taking charge of the camera and lighting crew and getting them to perfect the directors vision. They also regulate color and lighting. Finally, they frame every single shot in a film. 



Roger Deakins is a world renown cinematographers he is most popularly known for his work With directors the Coen Brothers, Sam Mendes, and Denis Villeneuve. He has over fifty five works. Some of the most popular being Fargo, Skyfall, and Country for Old Men. He holds Fifteen academy awards. and many more nominations. Direction in cinematography includes both the camera shots and the lighting to obtain both a particular type of effect and mood. Quality describes the softness of its shadows and how it behaves. source is the where the light comes from and its strongest source. Finally, color is the vagueness of the light.

 Production Design  Production design is the overall visual look or aesthetic of a story. There are different factors that make up production design in a movie including setting, set design, and props. These three contribute greatly to the overall feel the audience decodes. The role that setting plays is showing the importance of the place the movie takes place in to the plot. Set design can also widely contribute to the feelings of the characters in the scene and props do this also. The production designer is responsible for production design. It is significant to audience because it helps convey deeper meaning for the audience to decode. The primary purpose of production design is to create a mood, articulate themes, and eternalizes the state of a character.
